  • February 2, 2010 - Damien Kuiper successfully defended his Ph.D. dissertation. Congrats to Dr. Kuiper!!
  • January 2010 - Professor Carter was awarded a presitgious 2010 Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) Long Term Fellowship to support his sabbatical at Tokushima Burni University.
  • November 23, 2009 - Erik Carlson successfully defended his Masters thesis. He is off to start a job at Synthetech, Inc in Albany, OR next month.  Congrats to Erik!
  • November 21, 2009 - Subham's paper on the synthesis of the C7-C20 western half of amphidinolides C and F is featured on the cover (LINK) of Issue 22 of Organic and Biomoluecular Chemistry (ABSTRACT).
  • September 16, 2009 - Subham's paper on the synthesis of the C7-C20 western half of amphidinolides C and F was published today in Organic and Biomoluecular Chemistry (ABSTRACT). It is noteworthy that this communication has been awarded 'Hot Paper' status by the Royal Society of Chemistry.
  • August 24, 2009 - Liang Lu successfully defended his Ph.D. dissertation. He is off to postdoctoral position with Seth Herzon at Yale University in New Haven, CT next month. Congrats to Dr. Lu!!
  • August 19, 2009 - Dr. Hua Yang was promoted to Research Associate - Congrats to Hua!
  • July 24, 2009 - Jason Lusk was awarded a Undergraduate Research, Innovation, Scholarship and Creativity (URISC) Award for 2009-2010. Congrats to Jason!!
  • July 13 - Johanna Schwartz successfully defended her Ph.D. dissertation. She is off to law school at Lewis and Clark in Portland, OR next month. Congrats to Dr. Schwartz!!
  • June 11, 2009 - Hua's featured article on Asymmetric Construction of Nitrogen-Containing [2.2.2] Bicyclic Scaffolds Using N-(p-Dodecylphenylsulfonyl)-2-pyrrolidinecarboxamide was published today in the Journal of Organic Chemistry (ABSTRACT).
  • June 2009 - Liang and Wei's paper on the total synthesis of amphidinolide B (J. Am. Chem Soc. 2008, 130, 7253-7255, ABSTRACT) was featured in Synfacts (Synfacts 2008, 7, PDF).

  • April 15, 2009 - Professor Carter's National Institutes of Health (GM 63723) was renewed until 2012!
  • March 2009 - An article featuring our practical proline mimetic (called Hua Cat) was featured in Speciality Chemicals magazine (March 2009 Issue, pages 12-15).
  • February 19, 2009 - Liang Lu successfully passed his oral preliminary exam today. Congrats to Liang!!

  • September 23, 2008 - Hua's paper on a practical proline mimetic, N-(p-Dodecylphenylsulfonyl)-2-pyrrolidinecarboxamide (a.k.a. Hua Cat), for catalyzing enantioselective and diastereoselective aldol reactions was published today in Organic Letters (ABSTRACT).
  • August 22, 2008 - Brad's paper on the elucidation of competing tandem [2+2] cycloaddition/[1,3] sigmatropic shift pathway in our biaryl synthesis was published today in the Journal of Organic Chemistry (ABSTRACT).
  • August 20, 2008 - Jo presents her work at the National American Chemical Society meeting in Philadelphia, PA today (ABSTRACT).
  • August 19, 2008 - The Carter laboratory was awarded a Venture Fund grant from Oregon State University entitled "Commercialization of Hua Cat for Use in Asymmetric Chemical Processes." OSU has issue a press release concerning these awards.
  • June 27, 2008 - Hua's enantioselective total synthesis of lycopodine was published today in the Journal of the American Chemical Society (ABSTRACT).
  • June 5, 2008 - Erik, Lauren, Hua and Nathan's paper on an improved protocol for asymmetric, intramolecular heteroatom Michael addition using organocatalysis and its application to the syntheses of homoproline, pelletierine, and homopipecolic acid was published to day in the Journal of Organic Chemistry (ABSTRACT).
  • May 20, 2008 - Liang and Wei's total syntheses of amphidinolide B1 and the proposed structure of amphidinolide B2 were published today in the Journal of the American Chemical Society (ABSTRACT).

  • February 8, 2008 - Hua's article on a Scalable Synthesis of Lissamine Rhodamine B Sulfonyl Chloride and Incorporation of Xanthene Derivatives onto Polymer Supports was published in Synthesis today (ABSTRACT).
  • December 14, 2007 - Mike, Brad and Johanna's article in the Journal of Organic Chemistry is showcased on the cover of Issue 26 of the Jouranl of Organic Chemistry. (ABSTRACT)
  • November 27, 2007 - Brad's communication on the importance of the ortho-nitro moiety in our Diels-Alder Approach to Biaryls (DAB) was published today in Organic and Biomolecular Chemistry (ABSTRACT).
  • Novebmer 12, 2007 - Brad, Lauren and Betsy's full paper on the successful synthesis of the Western biaryl portion of TMC-95 was published in Tetrahedron as a Symposium-in-Print series entitled "Cycloaddition and benzannulation approaches to functionalised aromatic compounds" today (ABSTRACT).
  • September 25, 2007 - An article detailing Professor Carter's successful efforts to raise the funds to purchase a 700 MHz NMR for OSU Chemistry was described in a recent press release from OSU.
  • September 19, 2007 - Professor Carter has been awarded the 2007 Sugihara Young Faculty Research Award. The purpose of the award is to recognize outstanding scholarship in science by honoring a young faculty member in the College of Science at Oregon State University.
  • August 19, 2007 - Brad presents his work at the National American Chemical Society Meeting in Boston, MA.
  • June 29, 2007 - Brad's paper on the synthesis of tetra-ortho-substituted phosphorous- and carbonyl-containing biaryls via a Diels-Alder approach was published in the Journal of the American Chemical Society (ABSTRACT) today.
