General Information

A general chemistry sequence for students who have had no previous training in chemistry and for those whose college aptitude test scores indicate the need for a more elementary introduction to chemistry. Entering students are expected to have a working knowledge of high school algebra, logarithms, and scientific notation.

CH 121, 122, 123 must be taken in order

OWL Introductions 1, 2, and 3 are due Friday of Week 1. Please register your OWL and complete these assignments—5 points will be scored for mastering these three sections (a green check mark appears in the Assignment column when you master a section). About 101 OWL question sections are assigned--this number includes the three introduction assignments. These sets range from one to several questions. These are in the form of tutorials, simulations, and homework questions. A green check mark appears in the Assignment column when you master a section. You may repeat these indefinitely to earn credit if you did not master initially. A student will earn 45 course points for mastering between 80 and the about 101 question sections--this number includes the three introduction assignments.. A student will earn 25 points for mastering between 70 and 79 question sections--this number includes the three introduction assignments.. A student will earn 5 points for mastering between 1 and 69 question sections--this number includes the three introduction assignments..

 

  

OWL is an electronic homework package.  You purchase an access code (please purchase a full year if you plan on taking CH 121e and at least 122e; as the full year plan is $46.49 online and a one-semester sets you back $33.49 online).  You will not be able to login to the OWL homework system until Monday.  OWL can be purchased bundled with the text from the OSU Bookstore (link) or online (link—click on the “General” tab in the top right of the screen and then select the second book down).  If you investigate the purchase of a used OWL access card please ask your source when it expires!
