Awards & Fellowships

The Department bestows over $30,000 in fellowships and awards to graduate students at an honors and awards program each spring.

An award in honor of William Ingram, an alumnus of Oregon State University, is given to the student who has compiled the best record in all first-year courses and graduate student responsibilities.

The Benedict award is given to the second-year graduate student who has compiled the best record in all courses and has a strong start on research.

The Christensen award provides support to graduate students for expenses incurred attending professional meetings.

Three Harris teaching awards are presented to the best teaching assistants. The late Dr. Milton Harris, an alumnus of Oregon State University and former President of the American Chemical Society, provided a generous endowment for this program.

The David P. Shoemaker Memorial Fellowship provides one or more fellowships to exceptional advanced Ph.D. students in chemistry. The fund for this award was established by Clara Shoemaker, wife of the late Dr. Shoemaker, and their son Robert.

The department provides b to students whose research is related to human health. These fellowships were endowed by Dr. N.L. Tartar, an alumnus of Oregon State University and long-time physician in the community.
