Graduate Recruiting Weekend: March 13 - 16, 2008
Our department will be hosting a graduate recruiting weekend
in
Corvallis for prospective graduate students over the weekend of March
13-16, 2008. Invitations to
this weekend are extended to all domestic applicants that have
been accepted by the department. For a detailed description of the
required application
procedures, please visit our Graduate
Admissions web page. Friday morning, the students are
greeted in Gilbert Hall and given an overview of the program here at
Oregon State. Additionally, more individual meetings are
scheudled for students to meet with individual faculty members that
share their research interests. After lunch with current graduate
students, the
prospective students break up into groups for tours of the campus and
the ONAMI site as well as local businesses Hewlett-Packard and
Synthetech.
Friday evening a dinner is held in their honor in the
Memorial Union. The prospective graduate students can use this
opportunity to interact with Chemistry faculty as well as current
graduate students in a more informal setting. After dinner,
everyone is invited to continue their conversions while looking over
the chemistry posters from
current graduate students that surrounding the walls.
Saturday the prospective are typically given several options
including a trip to the coast
or a shuttle ride to Mt Hood Ski Resort for a good day of skiing in the
Cascade Range. The trip to the Oregon coast typically includes a
visit to
the coast town of Newport, the Seal Rock State Park right own the
Pacific Ocean and the Oregon Coast Aquarium.
