| The Pacific Northwest Undergraduate Research Symposium on Organic Chemistry and Chemical Biology is a new scientific meeting with an emphasis on promoting excellence and diversity in research conducted by undergraduate students within our region. The second annual meeting will be hosted by the Department of Chemistry, Oregon State University, and held in Corvallis, Oregon, on August 3-4, 2009. This year, in addition to student presentations, key-note lectures will be given by Prof. Thomas Scanlan (Oregon Health & Science University) and Dr. Joel Hawkins (Pfizer). Potential conferees are talented individuals presently studying chemistry or an allied discipline at the junior/senior undergraduate level and engaged in a significant research project in the general area of organic chemistry, including (but not limited to): • biological chemistry • total synthesis of natural products • synthetic methods development • organometallic chemistry • preparation and study of novel organic materials

| Attendance at the meeting is strictly limited (to 25 students), and participants selected on the basis of submitted research project abstracts and other application materials (see "apply to attend"). All student conferees are required to make a presentation during the meeting, either a 15 min lecture, or a poster, with the available lecture slots being awarded to the most meritorious abstracts. To receive full consideration, applications must be received by July 8. To encourage participation in the meeting, there are no registration fees for students, and travel (up to $500) and accommodation expenses for successful applicants will be covered by organizations sponsoring the symposium. Faculty wishing to attend the symposium are most welcome (see "faculty registration"). Please direct all enquiries to the 2009 symposium secretary. Symposium organizing committee:
